Inspired by the rare and endangered Resplendent Quetzal, this striking mask captures the essence of both majesty and myth. At its crown, the Quetzal perches proudly, its vivid emerald and golden plumes evoking the grandeur of ancient warrior headdresses. The mask’s sculpted form flows with immaculate lines, its mane-like silhouette imbued with a sense of noble strength and readiness for battle.
Delicate gilded accents and a radiant green glow heighten its opulence, while the interplay between the bird’s ethereal grace and the mask’s commanding presence creates a subtle theatricality. The result is an artwork that is at once sumptuous and symbolic - a celebration of beauty, resilience, and the awe-inspiring splendour of the natural world.
Artistic Techniques Used: The painting features a matte black background onto which the artist has layered artist-grade oil paints. Fine details were added using 24ct gold leaf, creating a gilded gleam. The foreground is finished in a gloss medium to create a slight 3D effect against the matte background. The painting is protected with multiple layers of MSA varnish, ensuring preservation and longevity. The painting is framed in a distressed black wood frame with 24ct gold leaf inlay, providing an opulent touch and striking contrast.
