Bent forward, he strides through the shallows with her on his back, coat and hat tilted into the rush, while London’s towers and bridges rise behind them like witnesses to a quiet act of devotion. The drawing feels like the first chapter of an elopement; two figures slipping away from the skyline they know, trusting only in each other and the fragile line that carries them to the opposite bank.
